Energy Bars

Posted by hammer53 in Untagged

hammer53

A few months back I wrote about Eddies Energy bars and how they were becoming very popular in the fitness world. That trend is continuing. Eddie Royal wide receiver for the Denver Broncos became a consumer and was so impressed a deal was brokered to have his label placed on bar. Check the web site.

Now Eddies energy will be embarking a new idea. Putting the mix in a packet and allowing you or others to purchase like a brownie mix and make your own!! What a great idea. All you do is add a yogurt or applesauce or any other of your favorites. I'm telling you this is going to be big.

Check it out at www.eddiesenergy.com let Michael know what you think about the ingredients package idea. Parents, athletes, trainers, stores, nutrition shops can now make their own batches and sample or sell.

Mom always knows best

Had the pleasure of recently going back to vist my family in Vermont and once again fueling my body with moms home cooking. Fresh grown potatoes and other veggies. Picking fresh apples off trees and enjoying home made jams, pickles, and beets.

What amazes me more than anything is the way my mpther prepares these meals. It always has the right amount of carbs, proteins and fats. It was such a pleasure eating and tasting good food and fresh food from our family gardens. Boy do I miss those days. growing up I thought this was the way everyone ate. How wrong I was and wish we could go back to those times.

We read and quite frankly are over loaded with new diets and special diets for those building muscle and losing weight. But there is no substitute to do some moderate exercise (walking) and eat good food. Yes we need to watch our portions, but do not deprive yourself of your favorites foods. What was amazing that after spending a week home I lost about 5 pounds without even trying. As much time as I spend working out with martial arts and spinning classes (teaching) as well as lifting weights, all I did was get up each morning walk 2 miles and eat moms cooking. Somewhere there's a lesson in this.

Also, I brought back with me a whole bunch of Pure Vermont Maple Syrup. If you would like some let me know. I can ship it USPS in fixed price package. I have quarts and payment can be through PayPal. Let me know quickly, I have already sold over 6 gallons with more requests coming.

What makes a good martial arts program.

The question I get asked the most is, "how do you find the best martial arts for children." Sounds like an easy question, yet many parents are confused when selecting a program. If you live in a city or large town chances are you have many different schools and programs to choose from. Look in your phone book and you'll find several ads placed. Plus, there are many schools that just don't advertise.

I always tell parents ask around. Discuss with other parents who have had children go through schools their opinions. Likes and dislikes. Narrow your list down and then go observe a class. Almost all schools will let you come in with kids and watch a class in session.

Martial arts schools boil down to two classes. Traditional vs. non-traditional. Traditional schools are structured by discipline, attendance, and respect. They call instuctors sir and always honor those who have higher belt ranks. Traditional schools teach not only techniques but also the history of the martial art. Traditional schools test usually 4 times a year and test for belts and ranks are usually done by either grand master of school or other instructors not associated with that particular program. Same martial art just different school. Non-traditional schools focus on achieving a belt. Many schools have varying colors of belts. White, yellow, green, purple, gold, ect. Traditional schools usually have basic belt ranks. White, yellow, green, red, brown, black. With ranks within the color of belt.
Non-traditional schools use a variety of different martial arts in their classes. Many schools within the non- traditional frame are called American Karate schools. Most of the American schools focus on fighting techniques where traditional schools focus on forms, (kata's) and lifestyle of individuals. Traditional school makes sure you are in good mental and physical condition to meet the demands of fighting. It emphasizes your limitations and how to avoid confrontations vs. thinking you can kick everyone's butt like you see on TV.

Best advice I can give is ask around and go observe classes. Talk to the instuctors and get a feel of their attitudes. Look at student to instructor ratios.  All will help in your choosing a school right for you and your children.

The dog days of summer!

I've been talking to many personal trainers over the last couple of weeks and a common theme has emerged. Business is down and people are fearful of the economy. Not good news for all of us in the fitness biz.

Typically this time of year is slow due to school starting and end of summer vacations.  That's OK, we usually plan for this. But something is a little different in play. I have seen an increase number of cancellations and no shows. I'm hearing some excuses that quite frankly has me worried.

Something new to market Part 2.

OK, I admit I'm always looking at what's out there in the fitness and nutrition world. As I'm sure you all are too. In a previous blog I mentioned that a new energy bar was hitting the market with a bang. In fact Entrepreneur magazine profiled this company as "one to watch." If you are like me you look for opportunities in the market place to not only use for you and your clients but also to make some money off the product. If I think it works I'll endorse it to sell.

My samples of the energy bar arrived today. WOW!!! An all natural and great tasting energy bar. Many of the elite athletes are already using this and it's starting to take off. The bar lasts up to 1 month refrigerated and 6 months frozen. 2 week shelf life. Besides who wants to eat a energy bar that's over a month old. We all have at one time or another. These bars are fabulous tasting and again all natural.

If you want some samples contact me and I'll have them sent to you. Secondly if you want to start selling these bars contact me and I'll set you up as a supplier. Everyone, this is ground floor opportunity stuff. This is where you want to be with a product. Contact me and I'll get you what you need.

Not seeing the trees because of forest!

Had a interesting situation come up while working with new client this week. Had a new client contact me to schedule an appointment and consult for their fitness program. This person had been working out with another trainer but felt they had peaked and was not improving to their satisfaction.

After talking to them and finding out what they were seeking I then asked what type of work they do. With a look of surprise they answerd they were in medical field. (Nursing) After a few more questions they asked why I wanted to know their profession. I then explained that my programs were designed not only for their fitness but also to strengthen them for their daily work environment.

They stated no one had ever ask them that question before and liked the idea of including that into their routine. Once we evaluated their work environment this is what we found.

1. Lots of strain to low back area. Lifing patients out of beds, wheelchairs and stretchers. 2. Shoulder and neck probelms due to lifing of patients who are incapacitated.

3. Tight hamstrings and weak gluteals which are precurser to back problems.

4. Weak rhomboids which are needed for pulling patients from gurney to bed or vice versa.

Needless to say the program I set for them will include the basics but more important a program to aid them at their work and help reduce their exposure to work related injuries.

The point I'm trying to make is as personal trainers we sometimes get caught up in the usual stuff of weight, BMI, body fat %'s, diets and forget about some important stuff of what are clients face day to day. Our clients need to keep working and make money so they can spend some hiring us.

Something new to the market.

As most of you know the fitness world is full of changes. Seems like each month a new type of machine or routine is being introduced touting the greatest results.

The latest but I'm not sure a new concept is called "Muscle Confusion". It makes sense but I have been doing this for years. We use to call it cross training. But good for Tony Horton for cashing in on the concept. The P90x DVD's are a very good program. But like anything else you need to follow the program to get results, I have come across a new energy bar that I think will have major impact for fitness oriented people. It is an all natural bar that can be frozen for extended shelf life. It comes in six flavors and it taste so good. Again, I emphasize all natural!!!! All protein and fiber. No additives or preservatives.
